Consumer Reviews
Following flying my S107 for a handful of weeks I didn't anticipate any micro coaxial helicopter to top it for enjoyable. I was incorrect...
The Avatar Z008 didn't fly fairly so effortlessly at initial. It was more difficult to retain altitude. I did not care for the dead stick throttle. It was too quick to get started the issue with blades spinning and then the mad rush to get it under control. I put a heavy rubber band across the controller to hold the throttle stick down. This was a tiny ugly but efficient. The trim for left/ideal rotation needed some attention for every single flight and the extra weight more than the S107 made the Avatar drop extra swiftly than I was put to use to. Making use of the outrigger motors was complicated to coordinate with the throttle for level sideways flight since they use the exact same stick.
I initially felt the S107 simply had the Avatar beat for fun and overall performance. As I said ahead of, I was wrong! It took approximately 10 flights and my complete perspective changed. Instinctively I was able to hold altitude and hover consistently. I began to get the feel for the side motors and could coordinate slides clear across the space with the fourth axis. I could rotate and move sideways at the exact same time and even creep forward and reverse - it was feeling more 3D all the time. After an hour or so of flight time I was in a position to evaluate my new Avatar with my S107 and right here is what I like about them each.
They each charge from my laptop in much less than 1/2 hour. The Avatar charges up around 30% quicker.
They each fly long adequate for me to welcome a break. In other words I was happy with the length of flight time. The S107 flies longer by about 30% but length doesn't equal high quality and like I mentioned, I am consistently satisfied when the batteries get low. I am ready to get recharged with the LiPos.
They each lift off steadily and with ease. Neither makes any dramatic lunges or spins. The Avatar does not shoot for the ceiling like the S107 when the batteries are at complete charge but the S107 appears to float alot more readily as the Avatar takes a small more concentration to preserve it from sinking to the floor.
The S107 moves much more slowly than the Avatar by 50% or so but they each cease and turn speedily and accurately in the exact same manner.
I like to practice landings on small flat surfaces other than the floor. I've gotten beneficial at it with each but mainly because of the extra 6 grams of the Avatar, my landings with it are improved. The tiny additional mass seems to combat the buffeting of the air against the surrounding objects during landing.
Both are sturdy and durable. I have crashed the S107 extra commonly and have replaced two rotor blades but it was the S107 that taught me to be careful. Each have produced solid make contact with against table legs and have fallen from heights. I somewhat feel that the Avatar's side motor nacelles tend to supply a small protection for the blades in some circumstances.
Since I've learned to use the two little motors on the sides of the Avatar, I have come to like them a lot. I delight in the miniature roar when they are engaged and the challenge to keep the Z008 at an even hover altitude. Leveling is in no way an issue. Both side motors come on when moving either left or proper, spinning in opposite directions. It is a one of a kind and pleasant feature and what causes me to select the Avatar when it comes time for a small fun.
The Avatar comes with some spare components (blades) for the main, tail and side motors and a little Phillips screwdriver that does not appear to fit something, like the IR manage door for the batteries. I hope to not want them but they are there if I do. I would surely hope that spare parts will grow to be on the market on the internet as the Avatar deserves a following. When I come property from perform, I appear forward to a little entertaining and it is the Avatar Z008 that is on my thoughts.
UPDATE: As frequently happens appropriate immediately after a evaluation is written, I managed to sheer the rotor shaft stopper pins. This is the portion that locks the leading blades to the shaft that turns them. I have located a source for the component but it is not in stock. I did have a handful of hours worth of fun out of this toy and I hope to be in a position to fix it for some more in the future. I could complain about the quality but honestly, these issues occur and anyone obtaining an RC helicopter soon comes to recognize they are prone to these troubles.
My Z008 flew perfectly out of the box. I was shocked that charging occasions were about 18-22 minutes. When a side motor is engaged, you ought to boost throttle in order to maintain altitude. This took me about four-five flights to master. At this point I was amazed at just how maneuverable this micro chopper actually is. It is able to outperform my Syma S107 in all categories except durabilty. I flew it for almost two weeks with out incident. It suffered what I regarded as to be a minor crash which broke the major shaft stopper. This is the portion the holds the leading blades in spot along with the connect buckles. I completely realized that obtaining replacement components for the Z008 was going to be difficult. For one particular, it is a pretty new product. Also, as 90% of every little thing, it is made in China. That becoming said, I have positioned a source for components and the link below really should assist current and future owners. The component I need to have is nevertheless unavailable, but it need to be in the near future. It is so significantly fun that I have viewed as acquiring yet another and turning my original into a parts donor. What stops me is the notion that this could pretty nicely be the Z008's Achilles heel. I like this chopper sufficient to invent a way to reinforce it. Had I received a defective example of one of these little gems, I am certain I would really feel differently and I can totally relate with that sort of disappointment. Hope this assists.
